Before Michael Jackson’s death, the singer told his mother that he feared someone wanted to kill him, Katherine Jackson told “Dateline NBC.”

“He told me several times that he felt that people wanted him gone, wanted him dead,” Katherine Jackson said in an interview airing Friday at 9 p.m. ET. “It’s just some of the mean, evil, vicious people didn’t want him around for some reason. They’re greedy.”

LOS ANGELES — Michael Jackson has sold an estimated 35 million albums worldwide since his death one year ago today, according to Billboard — an unprecedented response to a musician’s passing.

“Last year, when we saw the instant response from consumers wanting to purchase Jackson’s albums, there was nothing to compare it to,” Keith Caulfield, Billboard Senior Chart Manager and Analyst, told AccessHollywood.com. “Certainly since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991.”

A year after Michael Jackson’s death caused a worldwide outpouring of shock, tears and tributes, the anniversary of his passing was being marked Friday on a quieter scale, as fans remembered their fallen King of Pop with vigils, prayer and, of course, music.

The electric, enigmatic and troubled icon died on June 25, 2009, at age 50 as he was preparing for a series of comeback concerts in London. Dr. Conrad Murray is charged with involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s death for administering the powerful anesthetic propofol to Jackson to help the pop star sleep.

Los Angeles, California (CNN) — Michael Jackson’s children appear to be having lots of fun playing with the camera on their computer.

Several home videos, mostly featuring 8-year-old Blanket, were uploaded to YouTube last month, a source close to the family confirmed. The source asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter.

(CNN) — The notoriously private Janet Jackson opened up about her brother’s death on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” Friday, admitting that the family knew he had a problem.

“People think we were in denial but we weren’t. We tried intervention several times. He was very much in denial — he didn’t think he had a problem.”

When the news first broke that Michael was ill, Jackson said she first heard about it from an assistant while she was home in New York.

Los Angeles, California (CNN) — Dr. Conrad Murray, personal physician to Michael Jackson, was charged Monday with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the pop star’s death last summer.

A criminal complaint filed earlier in the day alleged that Murray “did unlawfully, and without malice, kill Michael Joseph Jackson.”

Murray turned himself in shortly before 4 p.m. at a branch courthouse near Los Angeles International Airport. He pleaded not guilty during a brief hearing before Judge Keith L. Schwartz.

Los Angeles, California (CNN) — Dr. Conrad Murray expects to surrender to Los Angeles authorities this week on charges relating to the death of Michael Jackson, his lawyer said Tuesday.

“Dr. Murray is more than ready to surrender and answer to any charges,” attorney Ed Chernoff said.

Prosecutors have not announced any charges, however, and Murray has not been told how or where he should surrender, according to Miranda Sevcik, spokeswoman for Murray’s legal team.

Los Angeles, California (CNN) — The most memorable moment of the 52nd annual Grammy Awards on Sunday may be the onstage appearance of Michael Jackson’s two eldest children to accept their father’s lifetime achievement award.

“To all his songs, his message was simple, love,” 12-year-old Prince Michael said. “We will continue to spread his message and help the world.”

With a voice that sounded more mature than his age, he then thanked “God for watching over us these last seven months and our grandma and grandpa for their love and support.”

Los Angeles, California (CNN) — Michael Jackson’s two eldest children are scheduled to take the stage this weekend to accept the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for their father, Jackson family sources said.

It would be the first public appearance for Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11, since their dramatic appearance at the memorial service 12 days after their father’s death.
