Late night hosts are using everything they’ve got to poke fun at the Republican presidential candidate race, from Jimmy Fallon making campaign ad parodies to Jimmy Kimmel’s “A Charlie Brown GOP Debate.”

But “The Tonight Show’s” Jay Leno might have gone too far for a few laughs.

On January 19, the show aired images of each GOP candidate’s home during Leno’s monologue. When it came to Mitt Romney, however, the image of the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, India was shown as his summer home, possibly to mock the extent of Romney’s wealth.

It’s hard to remember a new TV show that earned such universally horrible reviews as ABC’s “Work It,” which premiered last night.

The sitcom focuses on two unemployed men who dress up like women to find jobs. Stars Lee Standish and Amaury Nolasco may have to try that trick soon, because we can’t believe this show will stick around long. Here are a few of the best (worst) quotes about the show.

NEW YORK — Robert “Joe” Halderman, the former CBS News producer who went to jail for trying to blackmail David Letterman, has secured a job at “On the Case with Paula Zahn,” a weekly news magazine on the Investigation Discovery Channel.

TheWrap confirmed that Halderman has already started working with “On the Case,” which investigates crime mysteries.

Scott Weinberger, a former deputy sheriff and investigative reporter,
is the show’s creator alongside Scott Sternberg. A Discovery
spokesperson noted that Halderman works for Weinberger’s company,
Weinberger Media, rather than the network.

Alan Sues, a flamboyant and wacky member of the comic ensemble that made “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In” a big hit for NBC in the late 1960s, died Thursday at his home in West Hollywood of an apparent heart attack. He was 85.

Sues was a regular on the comedy-variety show from 1968 until 1971, playing such characters as Uncle Al the Kiddies’ Pal, a hung-over children’s entertainer, and Big Al, an effeminate sportscaster. He left “Laugh-In” before its final season.

NEW YORK — After ending his run on ABC’s “Live! With Regis and Kelly,” Regis Philbin is aiming for a bigger primetime talent show geared to the whole family, he told the New York Post’s Page Six.

Philbin, who hosted the first season of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” has formed RAF Productions with former “Live With Regis and Kathie Lee” director Barry Glazer, “City Island” executive producer Edward Walson and Writers Guild Awards executive producer Cort Cassidy, it reported.

As the U.S. teeters on the precipice of a double-dip recession, laughter truly might be the best medicine. Ashton Kutcher’s Sept. 19 debut on CBS’ “Two and a Half Men” generated a football-sized 29 million viewers, and the second week’s 20.5 million still topped last season’s average with Charlie Sheen. “How I Met Your Mother” debuted up double digits, and “2 Broke Girls,” which benefited from a monster “Men” lead-in, pulled in an astounding 7.1 rating in the 18-to-49 demo.

LOS ANGELES (CNN) — Dolores Hope, the widow of actor-comedian Bob Hope, died of natural causes at her Los Angeles home Monday, her family said. She was 102.

“I had such a huge admiration for both of them,” actress Julie Newmar said. “The quality it takes to get just one year older, says a lot about that fact that she lived to 102. What a glorious woman and life!”

Although she put her singing career on hold after her marriage to Hope, Dolores Hope was active as a philanthropist, involved in her own causes as well as her husband’s.

NEW YORK — No one would sniff at all the dollars Jerry Lewis raised for muscular dystrophy: a couple of billion during his 45-year reign as host of the MDA Telethon.

But what kind of TV did he offer in exchange? The short answer: Jerry put on a show like no other.

Labor Day this year promises to be bland by comparison, with the 85-year-old Lewis now banished from the annual rite he built from scratch and molded in his image.

As if deflated by the absence of its larger-than-life host, “The 46th Annual MDA Labor Day Telethon” will fill just six hours (Sunday from 6 p.m. to midnight in each time zone; check local listings for station), rather than the grueling 21½-hour endurance contest that Lewis used to churn through with his viewers in tow.

There won’t be much laughter tonight.

“It is with great sadness that the staff and crew of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ mourn the loss of ‘Uncle Frank’ Potenza,” ABC said in a statement.

“Thank you for your kind words about a very kind man — my Uncle Frank — who passed away this morning,” the late-night host tweeted.

Potenza, 77, was a security guard for the show, and made appearances numerous appearances during his nine years on the program, including in segments called “Guillermo’s Hollywood Round-Up” and “Uncle Frank and Aunt Chippy’s Adventures.” Prior to working on his nephew’s late-night program, Potenza was a New York City police officer, and security guard at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

I’d have to review the tapes, but I might have made a remark during last year’s Oscar broadcast, commenting that the show had deteriorated so much, I actually missed Billy Crystal. I think I’d like to take that back, now that Crystal seems to be throwing his hat back in the Oscar ring. The eight-time host told the audience at the Aug. 12 “City Slickers” 20th anniversary screening in Santa Monica, Calif., that last year’s Oscars cameo made him “itchy” to return to the show, the Los Angeles Times reports.
