LOS ANGELES — It’s Thanksgiving this week, a time to reflect on the people and things for which we’re grateful. Since I love movies, I thought it would be a good time to choose five for which I’m thankful. These are the cinematic equivalent of comfort food, ones I can watch over and over again, and always rely on to make me laugh, lift me up or provide an escape. (The inclusion of anything by John Hughes goes without saying.)

Ask me tomorrow and this list might be different. But for today, dig in:

‘Rushmore’ (1998)

Susan Lucci’s Erica Kane will have to surrender the spotlight on “All My Children” for a few days this September. That’s because Verla Grubbs is coming back to town!

Longtime “AMC” fans will know, because Verla originated in 1983 as the long-lost daughter of a character named Langley Wallingford … and was played by legendary comedienne Carol Burnett, who will reprise the role.

Oprah Winfrey is at the center of attention today for being what seems to be the shoulder to cry on for her friend Maria Shriver.

Maria, who has been at the center of a firestorm due to her husband Arnold Schwarzenegger’s infidelity, flew to Chicago Tuesday night and right into the arms of Oprah.

Maria shared the stage with Oprah for the taping of “Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular,” and “Showbiz Tonight” was right there.

Lisa Rinna, who 10 years ago was up for the “Live” job that Kelly Ripa ultimately snagged, would now like to take Regis Philbin’s spot on the show.

“I think it’s actually smart to put a lady in there [with] Kelly,” the former “Days of Our Lives” star told PopEater. “It would be fun to co-host with her, at least see what the chemistry would be like, ’cause we know sometimes women get along, sometimes they don’t.”

Oscar-nominated “Fighter” actress Amy Adams, 36, has been cast to play Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane in Zach Snyder’s “Superman” reboot, reports the L.A. Times.

“There was a big, giant search for Lois,” Snyder told paper. “It was obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”

There’s certainly been a lot of John Stamos around lately. Between his run on Glee as dentist Carl Howell, his uber-dark upcoming guest spot on Law & Order: SVU, and an unfortunate situation in which he found himself in the middle of the Charlie Sheen madness, he’s been hard to ignore. Luckily, Stamos is unfazed and looking forward to the next step, which, he tells EW, could include a full-time gig on television.

LOS ANGELES — Arnold Schwarzenegger is changing his famous catch-phrase to “I’m back” from “I’ll be back.”

The former governor of California said on Thursday that he was returning to his former role as a Hollywood action hero.

“Exciting news,” he wrote on Twitter. “My friends at CAA (Creative Artists Agency, his talent firm) have been asking me for 7 years when they can take offers seriously. Gave them the green light today.”

The 63-year-old actor’s two terms as governor of America’s most populous state ended last month, leading to much speculation as to whether he would upgrade to national political office or return to the silver screen.

After recent hinting in the press, Boy George confirms: Culture Club will reunite next year.

The singer, 49, also promises a “proper huge worldwide tour” starring the iconic ’80s hitmakers. The announcement comes during the run-up to the release of his solo album ‘Ordinary Alien,’ partly written while he served four months in prison for the assault and false imprisonment of a male escort.

LOS ANGELES — The Dude is up against the Duke. In the new “True Grit,” Jeff Bridges provides a wildly different take on boozy one-eyed lawman Rooster Cogburn than John Wayne did in the 1969 original.

Bridges reunited with Joel and Ethan Coen, who also directed him on 1998′s “The Big Lebowski,” in which he played the Dude, a middle-aged stoner whose “I’m the Dude, man” outlook has become intertwined with the actor’s own persona.
