LOS ANGELES – “The Hurt Locker” won the top two prizes at Sunday’s Academy Awards, taking home the best picture trophy and the best director honor for Kathryn Bigelow.
Bigelow is the first woman in the 82-year history of the Oscars to earn Hollywood’s top prize for filmmakers.
“There’s no other way to describe it. It’s the moment of a lifetime,” Bigelow said. “It’s so extraordinary to be in the company of my fellow nominees, such powerful filmmakers, who have inspired me and I have admired, some of them for decades.”

NEW YORK – Television ratings show a strong initial appetite for the Vancouver Olympics on NBC.
The Nielsen Co. said an estimated 32.6 million people watched Friday’s opening ceremony. That’s up 48 percent from the 22.2 million people who watched the first night of the 2006 Winter Games in Turin, Italy.

Los Angeles, California (CNN) — The most memorable moment of the 52nd annual Grammy Awards on Sunday may be the onstage appearance of Michael Jackson’s two eldest children to accept their father’s lifetime achievement award.
“To all his songs, his message was simple, love,” 12-year-old Prince Michael said. “We will continue to spread his message and help the world.”
With a voice that sounded more mature than his age, he then thanked “God for watching over us these last seven months and our grandma and grandpa for their love and support.”

Los Angeles, California (CNN) — Michael Jackson’s two eldest children are scheduled to take the stage this weekend to accept the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for their father, Jackson family sources said.
It would be the first public appearance for Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11, since their dramatic appearance at the memorial service 12 days after their father’s death.

(PEOPLE.com) — She wowed Simon Cowell, sold a bazillion records and captivated people worldwide.
But Susan Boyle’s act is apparently not music to the ears of the British record industry, which failed to honor her with a single nomination for the 2010 Brit Awards.
Some in the British press speculate that the Scottish singer, 48, whose album “I Dreamed a Dream” topped the U.S. and UK charts, simply isn’t trendy or stylish enough.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – The science-fiction blockbuster “Avatar” won best drama at the Golden Globes and picked up the directing honor for James Cameron on Sunday, raising the “Titanic” filmmaker’s prospects for another Academy Awards triumph.
It was a repeat of Cameron’s Globes night 12 years ago, when “Titanic” won best drama and the directing prize on its way to dominating the Oscars.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – James Owen Sullivan, a drummer and backup vocalist for Avenged Sevenfold, has been found dead at his home in Southern California, police said.
Lt. John Domingo said the 28-year-old Sullivan, who went by the stage name The Rev, appears to have died of natural causes on Monday in Huntington Beach.

NASSAU, Bahamas – Hollywood heartthrob Johnny Depp suspects he’ll never get used to receiving awards for his acting work.
Depp, best known for his Oscar-nominated role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” blockbusters, made the comments Sunday night before receiving a career achievement award at the Bahamas International Film Festival.
“Whenever anybody say they are going to give me some kind of award, I’m always a little stupefied by the notion. The first thing I say is ‘why?’,” Depp told a small scrum of reporters. “I just go to work like anyone else, except my job happens to be a little stranger.”

(CNN) — Adam Lambert’s suggestive American Music Awards performance hasn’t hurt sales of his first album.
With stiff competition from a slew of holiday compilations and Susan Boyle’s first album, Lambert’s debut is still managing to sell well online.
“For Your Entertainment,” Lambert’s first album after his run on “American Idol,” where he came in second to winner Kris Allen, is the fifth most downloaded album on iTunes behind Lady Gaga, Susan Boyle, the “New Moon” soundtrack and John Mayer.
