(CNN) — In an industry where youth is embraced and wrinkles are fought with Botox and age-defying caviar creams, longtime actress and comedienne Betty White is an exception to the Hollywood rule.

White, 88, is in the midst of a career resurgence at an age when most actors have long since retired from Tinsel Town and moved on to the golf courses of Palm Springs.

In the past year, the former “Golden Girls” star has appeared alongside Sandra Bullock in the blockbuster “The Proposal,” landed a cameo in a coveted Super Bowl commercial and received a lifetime achievement award at this year’s Screen Actors Guild awards.
